Woodworking was a new hobby that began in my late twenties. After buying a new home with my wife, it was clear that some new skills were needed to be learned to maintain our house. After countless hours watching video after video, I finally came across Steve Ramsey's The Weekend Woodworker. Without jumping straight into the hobby, I purchased my first circular saw and purchased his course online.
The course was taught by a very experienced, and likeable woodworker, Steve Ramsey. Steve was able to take people who have never touched a hammer or a drill and turn them into an avid craftsman. Throughout the course, I would build decorative tables, bookshelves, trays, and other various woodworking projects that push yourself to think divergently and creatively. The course was six weeks long and was truly exciting from start to finish.
My wife and I enjoy making something out of nothing. Julie was starting to become an avid painter while I was starting to construct tables, shelves, and other projects. Julie's experience with prepping, painting around the house projects provided me with the knowledge to produce quality projects. She helped tremendously with understanding the finishing portion of my projects to give them that desired finished look instead of a shop project. After my first table build, Julie helped me navigate Facebook marketplace to sell my projects and how to find the right target audience.
Tools, the garage workshop, or any type of building was completely foreign to me. I grew up with a father, and a grandfather who were accomplished tradesman. My grandfather was a master electrician who worked in the industrial field. My father started his own construction company, and spent much of his life constructing closets, decks, or any home project.
Working in tandem on construction projects with my father created wonderful memories. He would be my first call if I was ever in need of advice, or any type of aesthetic improvement. He provided tools, advice, and genuine encouragement in my new found hobby.
